Romania / Carpathians – February 12, 2015: Areal view of ancient forest. Romania hosts the largest stands of virgin forest in the EU. But only a fraction of these precious old woodlands are under sufficient protection. Logging poses an ongoing threat to ancient woodlands. Illegal logging is wide spread. Also in National Parks logging is usual. Ancient forest is also under threat in Natura 2000 areas.
